Start Spreading The Bruise - I’m Beating Today!
Hammerhead Snark | August 3, 2008It was a banner week for the NYPD. Gotham’s finest discovered two new threats and took hands on physical action to let these swine know that America’s top pigs are on to them. Who knew that the forces of destruction were now recruiting bicyclists and homeless folk to raise the ire of our watchful big brothers? Indeed, in two separate incidents our beloved police pals took pre-emptive measures to determine the extent of their interpreting the law knows no bounds.
Who doesn’t love a parade… apparently the men in blue. On Friday night Critical Mass held their monthly bike ride through Times Square. (Video Here) You think these cyclists would have learned after the 2007 beat down several riders received at the hands of New York’s police force in a scene more fitting for Belgrade than Manhattan but the crazed wheelies took to the streets again to perform their heinous act of cycling. This time an officer took out one of the bicyclists with a forearm shove that sent the dangerous rider into a Times Square sidewalk. If only Lavar Arrington had delivered such hits when he was in New York. The cop went on record to say that the cyclist had been swerving in and out of traffic and had rode directly into him. Unfortunately for the police the act was caught on video and sure enough it shows the officer taking four steps towards the cyclist and then slamming his forearm and chest into the rider who actually tried to swerve out of the cop’s way before being sent sprawling. At least his partner was kind enough to pick up the bike. What drove the cop to knock the cyclist ass overhead? A keen sense of intuition is my guess. Who knows what damage that Starbucks barrista and aspiring songwriter had in mind when he pedaled through Manhattan’s streets on his bike. And thanks to that patrolman we won’t have to find out.
The Bronx Brawlers were at it again several days later when again a camera caught a beat cop laying a beat down on a wayward homeless fop who was in a submission hold being applied by another cop as a third stood watching. (Video Here) The burly officer takes nine swings with a metal baton aiming at the man’s legs and midsection on the roughly 40-second piece of footage. Of course nothing has been said about why the man was being arrested or if he had provoked the beating but as with the infamous LAPD/Rodney King fiasco the question is obvious: at what point is physical force excessive and unnecessary? And the NYPD’s answer, never! Nothing feels better than taking pot shots at a defenseless target and you know it’s fun time when the officer actually hits the guy so hard his baton goes flying out of his hands and across the street. The cop retrieves his sick stick, catches a breath and then continues with the assault.
These two incidents show how police will act when a camera is watching them. Imagine how they act when the cameras aren’t rolling. No doubt the police will have a legal team defend their brutality by saying we didn’t really see what we saw and to shut up and be happy. The fascist Bush mob has taught everyone in power to act however you please because if you think you’re right then fuck the law. That Denver security officer removing a woman exercising her freedom of speech to keep a John McCain campaign rally freedom-free is a classic example of how this doctrine has infiltrated the minds of police everywhere. So take a bow NYPD, you keep cyclists and the poor in their places… flat on their back and helpless.
